Ferreira Struggled With First Team Choices
Diogo Ferreira did struggle of first-team opportunities at Brisbane Roar after starting just 11 matches last season. The club managed to win the league title last year, but this was not enough for the 24-year-old after he has signed for Perth Glory on a two-year contract. The youngster came through the ranks at European club FC Porto, but he has been playing for Melbourne Victory for the last three years. He joined Brisbane Roar without much success last season. Perth Glory have been on a recruiting spree in this transfer window.
They have already signed players like Dino Djulbic and Youssouf Hersi in this transfer window. Ferreira says that a move to Perth was extremely important in his career because he has the best desire of him. At this moment, he just wants to be playing regularly. The player has also revealed that he has spoken extensively with Perth Glory manager Kenny Lowe, who has apparently promised him a regular game time in the coming season. He says that despite leaving the title winning Brisbane Roar team he is confident that his new team will be able to challenge for the title in the coming campaigns.
Ferreira has had only limited experience in the Australian A-League after making 52 appearances for his former club Melbourne Victory. “It was a great experience to be a part of a Championship-winning side at Brisbane. However, having spoken to (Glory coach) Kenny Lowe, I’ve gained a good insight into the ambitions of the club and the players that he is close to signing. I believe it’s a great opportunity for me to now be part of a team that I feel will be challenging at the top of A-League ladder in the coming seasons,” said the player, who has represented the Australian under 23 team seven times.
